our perceptions of who we prepare to be to face the world shape who we are

Satirical snapshot of a robot propping the economy as AI-led systems replace human effort

I am fascinated by the increasing role that artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics will play in our society's future.
Will the economy and consumerism be the same if the potential AI-driven advancements replace human effort?
The ongoing attention given to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics combined with the ever-increasing need for the development of efficiencies in today’s economy gives rise to the ethical questions around the replacement of human effort.   I believe that the need for government subsidies to businesses and employees during COVID will be emulated in the future with the increasing role of AI driven services and manufacturing as businesses attempt to derive efficiencies.  These efficiencies will likely diminish the size of the global workforce.  As a result, consumerism, as intended may be jeopardized as the funded workforce decreases and individual contribution to the economy also decreases resulting in reduced economic growth.  This theory is akin to the development of the term “horsepower” for engines at the turn of the 20th century; horses were counted, but no longer the driving force.
During COVID, governments around the world were forced to provide liquidity to the markets to prop GDPs and maintain livelihoods as well as businesses.  I believe that the universal policy for the provision of subsidies during COVID will remain in all first-world nations beyond the time when COVID risks are averted.  As Industry 4 and 5 become realities, the redefinition of the economy may be necessary as humans may remain the source of consumption, but the production of goods and associated services will be ever increasingly provided by the efficiencies brought about by artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics.
